Responsible for the 24-hour operation of the Department. Hours as
needed to accomplish the same. Works in collaboration with the Chief
Nurse Executive and Associate Chief Nursing Officer in providing
leadership at the departmental, institutional, and Medical Center
levels; accountable for ensuring that nursing practice, nursing
education, and nursing research are carried out according to acceptable
standards. Develop plans to meet the human and material needs of the
department and institution on a short and long term basis. Functions
include but are not limited to : Patient Care-implements programs to
ensure resources appropriate to patient care needs, reviews and develops
policies and procedures in accordance with patient care standards,
assures nursing practices within department meet JCAHO, State Health
Department and other regulatory standards, systematically examines and
revises nursing practices and standards of care through scholarly
inquiry research and demonstration projects, evaluates effectiveness of
services provided. Personnel- recruits, hires, and terminates Nurse
Managers and other select staff, assists in the recruitment and
orientation of Staff Development Instructors, Coordinators and other key
individuals within the nursing organization. Administrative/Financial
Management-develops/monitors and revises departmental budgets including
operations and capital, implements strategies to deliver cost
effective/efficient care, appropriate utilization of resources, develops
and executes nursing strategic and tactical plans and prepares reports.
Education- develops and implements strategies fostering professional
growth, contributes to Partnership effort through participation in
educational programs at the graduate/undergraduate and CE level.
Research- fosters a climate conducive to clinical nursing research.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
PA RN license, BSN, Master's degree required.
Master's degree in Nursing preferred. Earned doctorate desireable.
Must be eligible for a Faculty role in the School of Nursing.
